Biodanza

A meeting space, regular or monographic, to explore vital movement from dance, listening, and the group, with care and support.

Today, in a regular group in the Empordà, monographic workshops and specific cycles for entities and institutions in different parts of the region.

Biodanza becomes a space of encounter, support and care by listening to the word and the body. Movement, music and silence accompany dance and experience in an emotional and vital environment.

Biodanza is a system created by the Chilean Rolando Toro and regulated internationally. It aims to enhance the healthy parts, inherent in people, in a caring and respectful group environment. In this way, following the proposals of the facilitator and the rhythm and melody of the music, the people who practice Biodanza, have the possibility of living from the movement and the encounter, with new bodily, experiential, relational and bonding possibilities.

For Biodanza, dance does not have an aesthetic objective; there are no good or bad movements. It is a movement full of meaning in every moment and in each person, which allows us to express who we are and how we are and to develop and integrate our identity in a healthy way. Music is the vehicle that helps us express emotions, states and sensations from movement, and from the encounter with others. Also from silence, a space of stillness and listening. The integrative experience is the experience of the perception of being alive here and now, both subtle and intense and often difficult to describe. The group is essential, both an affective continent and the possible, intimate and safe space where to develop, express and integrate the experience.

How can Biodanza help you on a daily basis?

Biodanza favours more caring forms of communication, encourages listening and respect, the strengthening of self-esteem, the development of identity, creativity, joy and self-regulation, and it offers the tools to walk towards a lifestyle oriented to physical, emotional and affective well-being.

How do Biodanza workshops and sessions work?

Biodanza is practised in regular weekly groups and also in workshops and monographic sessions. A regular session lasts approximately two hours. It starts with an initial listening space, a space of verbal intimacy, in which everyone has the option to express and share their moment. Next, movement proposals linked to a maxim of life, accompanied by music, are provided.  There are individual, couple and group proposals, in a context of care and progress. Here, silence favors experience.

The sequence and the duration of the session, and its content, can vary according to the format, the space and the collective in which it forms a part. It can also change in the monographic sessions, in which the word can occupy different spaces, according to the duration and the sequence proposed.

Who are the Biodanza groups or workshops aimed at?

Biodanza spaces are open to people of all ages and situations. The regular weekly groups are intended to be an inclusive space in which different ages and life situations can be accommodated, with the intention of meeting and welcoming everyone’s dance. It is always important to have availability of movement.  We can include any difficulties that may arise during a prior conversation, in order to define the healthiest outcome for the group. In the case of specific, monographic workshops, these sessions can be directed to a specific age group or situation, which is generally already clear in the description.
